Description
Brandywine Tomato
Days to Maturity: 90 days
Type: Indeterminate
Description: Brandywine Tomato is a cherished heirloom variety with a rich history dating back to 1885. Renowned for its exceptional flavor, it is often hailed as one of the best-tasting tomatoes in the world. The plants of Brandywine Tomato resemble potato vines and produce good yields of large fruits, typically averaging between 16 to 18 ounces each. The fruits are firm, with clear, rosy-pink skin.
Characteristics:
-
Flavor: Brandywine tomatoes are celebrated for their outstanding flavor profile, which is characterized by a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. The complex, rich taste of Brandywine tomatoes is a favorite among tomato enthusiasts and culinary aficionados.
-
Texture: The texture of Brandywine tomatoes is typically smooth and meaty, with a succulent juiciness that adds to their appeal. Their firm flesh holds up well in various culinary applications.
-
Appearance: Brandywine tomatoes are large and visually striking, with their rosy-pink skin and substantial size making them stand out in the garden and on the plate. Their uniform shape and smooth skin contribute to their aesthetic appeal.
Culinary Uses: Brandywine tomatoes are prized for their exceptional flavor and are often enjoyed fresh in salads, sandwiches, and other raw preparations. Their meaty texture and rich taste make them ideal for slicing and layering in sandwiches or burgers, where they add depth of flavor and juiciness. They can also be diced and used in salsas, bruschetta, and pasta dishes, where their robust flavor shines through.
Harvesting: Harvest Brandywine tomatoes when fully ripe, as indicated by their deep pink color and slightly soft texture. They should come off the vine easily with a gentle twist. For best flavor and texture, allow the tomatoes to ripen fully on the vine before picking.
Storage: Store ripe Brandywine tomatoes at room temperature away from direct sunlight, as exposure to sunlight can cause them to overripen quickly. Avoid refrigerating them unless they are fully ripe and need to be stored for an extended period, as refrigeration can diminish their flavor and texture.
Gardening Tips: Provide Brandywine tomato plants with well-draining soil, ample sunlight, and regular watering to ensure healthy growth and abundant fruit production. Consider using stakes or cages to support the plants as they grow, as their heavy fruits may cause the branches to droop or break. Prune the plants as needed to improve airflow and reduce the risk of disease.

Shipping Policy
At Standish Milling, we're committed to delivering your products in a timely and cost-effective manner. Here's some information to help you understand our shipping costs.
UPS Ground Shipping
We primarily use UPS Ground for our shipping. The cost of shipping is calculated based on the weight of your order and your location. UPS Ground offers reliable, cost-effective delivery for packages under 150 lbs.
You can estimate your shipping costs by adding items to your cart and entering your shipping address. Our system will automatically calculate the shipping costs before you proceed to checkout.
LTL (Less Than Truckload) Shipping
For larger orders over 150 lbs, we use Less Than Truckload (LTL) shipping. LTL shipping is a cost-effective way to ship large orders by combining shipments from multiple customers.
Here's how it works:
-
You get a quote: When you add items to your cart that total more than 150 lbs, our system will provide an LTL shipping quote. This quote is based on the total weight of your order and your shipping address.
-
Your order is shipped: Once your order is ready, we send it to the shipping carrier who combines it with other shipments going in the same direction. This process allows us to save on shipping costs and pass those savings onto you.
-
Your order is delivered: The carrier will deliver your order to your specified address. Keep in mind that delivery times for LTL shipments may be longer than UPS Ground shipments due to the consolidation process.
